Crankshaft (2012) |
|
Concerto for Bass Trombone
(currently only available with piano accompaniment. Wind Ensemble and Orchestral accompaniments to be completed in the near future.)
Program Notes:
I originally conceived Crankshaft to symbolize the motion of pistons in an engine. It fascinated me how each of these small, yet invaluable portions of the engine move such intense energy in fast, continuous cycles.
I found the bass trombone to be an ideal instrument to represent this symbolism due to its ability to create an enormous sense of power (and also the slide motion kind of looks like a piston in action...). With flowing lines, a rocketing cadenza, and numerous interweaving parts between soloist and accompaniment, it is my goal that Crankshaft will be an epic new addition to the very limited bass trombone repertoire.
