Growing Pains (2017) |
|
For Solo Timpani (4 drums).
Dedicated to all of my students, both past and present.
Growing Pains represent the changes and arduous situations that we all confront as we get older. These situations, while difficult to traverse, benefit us and make us grow as people in the long run of our lives.
In relation to solo timpani literature, I feel that there is a significant absence of works for timpani in the intermediate level that force the student to expand their understanding of the instrument as well as introduce complex tuning changes without having to give the student a piece that is too difficult for them. I hope that this etude provides an opportunity for your student to grow and expand their horizons to more advanced, complex works for timpani that are staples in the percussive repertoire.
